The Polar Vortex is plunging into Boston, but don’t worry because we have a meal to warm you right up. Dinner Club is back in action with the entire crew in attendance for the first time in months. We planned on making this dish last week but we got lazy and got takeout instead. Tonight on the menu we have sirloin strip pepper steak with a sweet potato. Come gather around the fire and learn how to make a comfort dish brought to you by TNDC.

Rolling into the market tonight I wanted to get in and out as fast as possible because it is freezing out. I picked up sweet potatoes, sirloin steak, colorful variety of peppers, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and cornstarch. I have learned from experience the potatoes always take longer to cook than expected. The first thing we did for tonight’s dish was make the sweet potatoes. To properly cook the potatoes you want to wash the skin and then poke holes all over. Drizzle a little olive oil and sprinkle salt for added flavor. Place on tinfoil in the oven on 425 for about an hour. For the pepper steak we sliced sirloin steak into thin slices. Then we sliced the  peppers into thin slices. We heated up the wok on the stove top with a tablespoon of vegetable oil and threw the peppers in. In a saucepan we cooked the sirloin steak to medium rare and garnished with salt and pepper.

When the steak was cooked to medium rare we then added it to the wok with the peppers. With a flip of the wrist mix the peppers and meat in the wok. For sauce in a bowl we combined garlic, ginger, salt, pepper, soy sauce, sugar and cornstarch. Mix that up good and then pour into the wok. Continue cooking the meat, pepper and sauce for about 12 minutes. After completing those easy steps you will have a meal that will make you forget the freezing temperatures ou tside. Pepper steak and sweet potato may seem like a strange combo, but let me tell you that it hit the spot in my belly.

It was nice having the entire crew back together. Everyone has been busy the last few weeks with various major life events. Port is about a month away from tying the knot. Randy is busy planning his wedding for this coming spring. Lois is studying in hopes to one day become a doctor. Baron is ensuring the happiness of the nation’s youth. Donut has been travelling the country. I have been busy convincing people that TNDC is as strong as ever. Adulting gets busy and even though we don’t spend every week in the kitchen, we are still here. Until next week…
